High temperature bearing material

To withstand high temperatures, high temperature bearings use specialized lubricants. In grease-packed bearings, fluorine grease is pre-filled to withstand high temperatures, whereas solid molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) lubricant is used in YS and SJ bearings to withstand temperatures of up to 350°C and 400°C, respectively.

Temperature limits apply to all bearings. Above a certain temperature, the material usually weakens and the bearing can no longer handle any meaningful load or speed. Chrome steel bearings can withstand temperatures of up to 150°C when properly lubricated, while 440 grade stainless steel bearings can withstand temperatures of up to 300°C.
